The Great Railroad Strike in Ohio
Air Brakes
The Panhandle Railroad, a subsidiary of the Pennsylvania, was the first road to agree to test George Westinghouse’s new-fangled airbrake in 1869. During the test, as the train equipped with it exited Grant Tunnel in Pittsburgh, the engineer saw a wagon had gotten stuck on the track. He employed the brakes and stopped just four feet from the it. This fact came from The Great Railroad Strike in Ohio by this website's creator, Mark Strecker.
