Some Interesting Facts from
The Great Railroad Strike in Ohio
Zoar Village and the Depression of the 1870s
The village of Zoar, OH, was little affected by the depression of the 1870s. As a result, the religious commune that ran it—the Society of Separatists of Zoar—was overwhelmed with queries from outsiders asking to join, prompting it to send out form rejection letters. Zoar became a tourist hotspot, made more popular when the Wheeling & Lake Erie Railroad came to town in 1882. This fact came from The Great Railroad Strike in Ohio by this website's creator, Mark Strecker. You can buy it at Amazon or from the History Press.
