The Great Railroad Strike in Ohio
Governor Thomas L. Young
Thomas L. Young was Ohio’s governor when the Great Railroad Strike of 1877 erupted. A native of Ireland and a Civil War veteran, his level-headed response to the crisis left the state nearly unscathed when the strike ended in early August. He used a mix of diplomacy and a show of force to end the strike in Newark through which trains from both Baltimore & Ohio and Panhandle Railroads (the latter a subsidiary of the Pennsylvania) passed. This fact came from The Great Railroad Strike in Ohio by this website's creator, Mark Strecker. You can buy it at Amazon or from the History Press.🕜
