Sunbury Bridge Collapse
In the 19th century, Ohio had no safety laws for railroad bridges, and it showed. On October 17, 1879, a bridge over the Big Walnut Creek near Sunbury, Ohio, collapsed as a Cleveland, Mt. Vernon & Columbus Railroad freight train crossed. The fall of forty feet resulted in the injury of five crewmen. Its replacement collapsed in 1912. This fact came from The Great Railroad Strike in Ohio by this website's creator, Mark Strecker. You can buy it at Amazon or from the History Press.
